I think North Carolina starts easing back the shelter in place restrictions this weekend.
I think.
I mean, there's a "plan" anyways.
So, either things get better or they get worse.
But definitely "things."
I joked around recently that I'd hate to be on my death bed thinking "I never rode my new Hydra wheels... gasp... wheeze... "
Half meaning it and half not. They were meant to be ridden after all.
Definitely not the smartest thing while being not the dumbest thing I'd done in awhile. My left hand is certainly not up to the task of riding rigid (confirmed fact). It didn't help matters that I spent one morning last week moving 200lb+ timbers in the yard and tossing various chunks of rip rap about, followed the next day with putting down 480lbs of concrete...
because home ownership truly is the American Dream.
*salutes flag while swiping credit card*
I spent most of the short'ish ride just holding on to the bars on the left side and relying on my right hand to activate the rear brake to keep things in check. Riding this way was on the painful side, and my hand is more pissed off today than it was 24 hours ago.
But the good...
The bike creaked. A lot. I consider this good because I'd rather be sorting this out now as opposed to when we all start racing again.
Member racing?
I member.
99% sure the cog is worn out, and I already have a new one on hand, so bueno. Sort that out today.
The other good thing?
Can I tell that the wheels are 200 grams lighter? Yeth. Holy poop sticks. It feels like I'm accelerating a road bike in the woods. I can not wait to open 'er up for reals... but my hand says it feels like we're riding a road bike in the woods in all the bad ways right now. Since I've become so familiar with the Backyard Trails over the past couple months, I could sense myself pre-cringing before all the bigger hits.
Dammit.
And because people ask me all the time "how much does your bike weigh?" and I don't know the answer because I haven't weighed it in whatever livery it's currently adorned in at the time they asked and this is how muh behk will remain for sometime to come...
Sorry not sorry, no image of the scale. Too hard to hold the scale with the bike on it and snap a picture and also too lazy to look for a decent place to hang the very hangable scale.
And also also, it's stuck in kilograms for some reason. Pretty sure it just knows the Imperial System is ded like single speed and 26" wheels and blerhgs and vaping.
Long story short, the wheels put the Vertigo Meatplow V.7 under 20lbs for mebbe the first time ever? Dunno. I think. Also, I put the crabon crunks back on because "why not?" and I left the Super 8 Strap, Wahoo mount, and speed sensor on... because... did I mention "lazy?"
Sun's out today, my hand hasn't fallen off yet, I have a bike with a squarsh fork, and I still live in this slowly decaying dwelling near the shit trails in the garbage woods... so I go play later.
After I swap that cog tho.
And mebbe move a shelf in the kitchen or some other task that stimulates the productive lobe in my brain.
