If they build it, things will get dumb. Preparations are underway...

I'm gonna do what I can to be in front of a computer screen this Sunday. All negativity regarding the event aside, it is just a fantastic display of talent. I can't look away. Watching anything gravity oriented makes me wanna go rip shit up. Riding the Scott Genius 40 for the last month has brought back feelings of riding the Tallboy last year, which all brings back feelings from the early 2000's... the "Death Bike" days. The very days I wrote about in my last Dirt Rag article. The same days which eventually led me to single speeds and divine simplicity.
I've been on a fast forward mode of the same story. A couple trips to the mountains on the Genius, and I am once again addicted to speed. I'll admit, I was on eBay trying to figure out if I cashed in the Genius and tossed in a few bucks, could I get a full-on 8" travel, single ring bike to push up the mountain and crush the descents. All the descents.
Yes, basically the same road I went down almost a decade ago and essentially repeated a couple years back. As fun as it is to rip down the trail at lightning fast speeds, some of the challenge is missing. Once again being able to hang with Eric "PMBAR Honcho" Wever on descents, occasionally leading him out (albeit with him on a 5" frocked hardtail). Crushing Turkey Pen and going so fast that I'm getting way outta hand when something pops up outta nowhere. Today's six inch trail bike is leaps and bounds better than that Santa Cruz Bullit I was so fond of over a decade ago. Seriously, it's just silly.
I do wonder how long this fling will last this time. It's like an ex-girlfriend coming to town, fucking shit up, and leaving you in an empty husk state. It feels dirty, like cheating, fun, yet not guilt-free. I really shoulda made the effort to get up to Snowshoe before it closed its lifts for the season. I'm on borrowed time...
